August to September | Bindiya Bedi Charan Noronha

September 2, 2022

A beginning
A glowing promise beckons
Days are short; time is shorter.
Surprise around the corner
In autumnal tones awaits

I am in turmoil
Wanting the radiance of new
Desperate to leave history behind
Rid the sterile pessimism of
Unfulfilled dreams

Summer lights will dim,
Cold awaits
What will climate change bring?
Dryness and fire or water and floods?
My heart still clings to a peaceful September.

The night sky speaks in a foreign language
Unaware of the strangeness of familiar
Translating changing ways of life
I remain a foreigner in my land
When will I feel at home?

Hope reverberates
I end today in the rise of tomorrow
The promise of the new must emerge
In the decline of August
Singing the September Song
