Voyage | Gary Hewitt

They found the beaten sandal
And dreamt of perfect polythene
Wrapped around a pair of twigs
They gazed into the ocean
Sipped from a water bottle
These dreamy clever boys

Work to be done for the boys
When they caught a stray sandal
They found a place for their bottle
Along with a sheet of polythene
A gull cheered from the ocean
From the sea came twigs

They wished for stronger twigs
Perfection impossible for those boys
Who whooped by the side of the ocean
One grabbed the Sandal
Another pointed to polythene
His friend inspected the bottle

For good things lay in this bottle
Direction was made for the twigs
They strapped on the polythene
These smart nautical boys
They dreamt of a floating sandal
In the midst of the ocean

They feared a stormy ocean
Who might drink their bottle
Lose the water tread of the sandal
Under the gaze of tight twigs
Stared these African boys
Who thought of kites of polythene

Then one made a sail of polythene
They would conquer the ocean
These intrepid sailor boys
Who secured raft with a bottle
Made their mast of twigs
With their hull of Sandal

The polythene berthed next to bottle
The ocean guided their twigs
