Ode to Yellowstone | Sandra Rokoff-Lizut

Coyotes lope nearby us
In needled hush. Perhaps we’ll
spy a bison or a bear.
Eureka—wild things, oh wild things!

Throngs of us make million clicks
pilfering bits of grandeur,
grace, fright, delight. Let’s take awe
back with us—live it one more time.

We want to drink the lakes up,
lug boulders home and mound them
round memories of feral
places, old and otherworldly.

Multitudes of greedy feet
traipse and trek across your face.
Scraping, scaring splendor—
we brush aside our recklessness.
