There is a nameless woman
in the town of Eagle’s Nest
that sets up an angel behind the hill
at every sunset.
There’s nothing unusual in this act
because the women in the town
are used to talking with spectral creatures.
The only thing that’s different is she listens
to the angel with the golden fingers
play light music.
…
I’m not surprised,
the man said, all my life
I lead a life of a deceased.
My body was a coated skeleton
of meat and clothing.
Rarely did I venture to see myself naked.
Most of the time I covered my skeleton,
my skin, and my clothes with other wrappings
no less spurious.
And so, like a proud and slow goose,
I walked through the streets of the city
without seeing the angel inside me.
…
On the top floor
of a very tall building,
two angels slept.
One dreamt he was watching over
the other angel’s sleep.
The sleeping angel was creating
worlds without knowing.
