Letter -1955 | Ranjani Neriya

July 5, 2015

Vaya con Dios,  R.

humming darts we were, quivered close,
targeting the practice of life

blue-drunk with blight, we craved
sometimes, a draught of cyanide

only to slap ourselves wise, rise
to the tinctorial rapture of eventide

with the Phillips radio spilling
the Les Paul-Mary Ford number, as

a soft white sun wheeled through
the mignonette’s orange turrets

                          *

we ennobled the village lake with
our paper boat of dreams, left behind

our shadow on the wall of white sun
heard someone erase our name, but

here we come, unfolding like a lost letter of time
to ink the dimmed space, the paleographic blot

walk the drizzly firefly-moon mosaic clime
of one more Les Paul-Mary Ford eventide.
