As They Head North | Sandra Rokoff-Lizut

Poverty pushes
scratched dented heart;
fractures familias,
as they head north.

Sun-scorched,
feet blistered, bloodied,
clutching los ninos
they head north.

Danger
deception, death,
eager predators stalk.
Head north.

Salvation’s
cruel sweet
siren-call beckons.
North.
