Few Poems by Rohini Kejriwal

To the wonders of synaesthesia | Rohini Kejriwal

My dreams shall smell of magic tonight
Fragrant memories of a not-so-distant past,

Between garbled talk and confessions,
I swim towards the shore.
No shark fins chasing after me.
It’s just how dreams ought to work.

Longing | Rohini Kejriwal

One summer,
On a trip home from boarding school,
I found the tub missing.
The bearer of many fond memories,
Happy, weird and sad,
Was no longer in my parents’ bathroom!

Instead,
They got a miserly shower,
A douser of all hopes of Sunday bubble baths,
Where my imaginary duck troops always defeated the snake that made the water go away.

It prevents injuries when you’re as old as us, they said.
But I knew better than to scorn.

On every family holiday since,
In hotel rooms equipped with tubs,
You can find me locked up in the bathroom.

Rainbow weather | Rohini Kejriwal

I have a mild case of rainbow weather.
It drizzles every time I think of the terrace,
Sunny as soon as my umbrella’s up.

I don’t mind it, especially today.
With dogs that walk funny for company
Foggy mustard fields as far as the eyes can see,
Blankets to keep the unpleasantness at bay,
Petrichor in the air.

It doesn’t even feel like small talk anymore-
When someone brings up the weather.
