I First Remember the Sound | K.V. Wilt

in my head when Dad was stationed
at Mitchell.  Eight, I slept in the small
room where the stairs met the hall
that telescoped to the bathroom.
First the sound was a high-pitched hum
at night when I lay in bed, my head
to the window and the railroad
tracks.  When I listened to the hum, it
swelled, and I saw what I called Planet
Saturn behind my eyes.  Its rings spread;
turning purple, blue, green, yellow, red.
The hum has become a chorus,
Saturn a galaxy I call Muse.
