From the Desk of the Chair | R. W. Haynes

Irony, detachment, and renunciation,
Leave me be, now; let me conspire
Ferocious, merciless retaliation
In blood, lust, raging plunder, and fire.
The misty precipitation of misery
Builds moldy horrors of accumulation
As wriggling microbes gestate poisonously
Dementing the dull mind with infestation.
Let Hnæf and his mead-drunk men attack
With sword and torch, let Achilles drag
Hector’s murdered body around the track,
And give Brother Judas a good grip on his bag.
In images of pillage, brutality, and rout,
Destruction drives devastation out.
