Two Poems from Kuruntokai | Karupudayyan Kavinien

O beautiful winged bee
for whom honey is life.
Tell me what you saw
and nothing just to please me.
Among the flowers you know,
is there one as fragrant as the tresses of my love
with straight perfect teeth,
as beautiful as the peacock
along with enduring love for me?

( Kuruntokai, 2)

***

What is my mother to yours?
How is my father and your father related?
You and I, how did we know each other ever?
Like the falling rain merges with the red earth,
our hearts have become one.

(Kuruntokai, 40)

Kuruntokai, a classical Tamil poetic work, is the second book of Ettuthokai, a Sangam literature anthology. Kuruntokai contains poems dealing with matters of love and separation content matter and were written by numerous authors.
