Moving On | Gary Beck

The tourists have departed.
The last trickles of heat
sink into city concrete
warming no one.
The tourists have departed
and the weary shopkeepers
shut their doors early,
go home to count their Euros,
await the lonely morning
for the shoppers have moved on
to warmer climes,
seeking fun in the sun,
sexual encounters,
targets for cameras.
So the city moves
at a slower pace
unnoticed by nature
too busy courting survival.
